Just Another Bookish Ball

Sometimes we have to make a decision that is best for everyone else, though it is not the decision we want to make. Unfortunately—in the best interests of our authors, vendors, and attendees—we must cancel Just Another Bookish Ball in May of 2026.

What to Know:

Refunds. If you purchased a ticket or addon, you will be refunded the entire amount of your purchase, minus the Eventbrite processing fee, which we do not have the ability to refund. Once we have processed your refund, you will receive an email from Eventbrite, and the funds will be in your account in 7-10 business days.

What happened? We started planning Just Another Bookish Ball in October of 2023. Between October 2024 and November 2025, quite a few unrelated event scandals have created a sense of deep mistrust in the bookish community. Because of this mistrust, it has been exponentially harder for new events/businesses to take flight.

This left us with a difficult choice. We could choose to continue and hope we somehow sold enough tickets by May 2026 to ensure a strong, satisfying event for all—or we could cancel now in order to avoid incurring additional expenses and hardship for our attendees. 

We have 90+ authors and vendors attending this event, and our first responsibility is to them. It is an investment to attend an event like this as an author/vendor, and based on our current attendance estimates, we don’t feel they will be able to recuperate this investment. We are not willing to let them spend thousands of dollars on the hope that we will sell the remaining tickets.

Please know that this is not a decision we made lightly, nor is it a decision we wanted to have to make at all. Cancelling the event is going to cost us ~16,000 USD out of pocket, and that is without including the hundreds of hours we put into planning, marketing, and advertising.

Throughout this entire process, our goal has been to be transparent and honest with our authors, vendors, influencers, and our potential attendees. As hard as it is to continue to be transparent and honest in this moment, we are still committed to that.

We are so sorry for letting you down. We wanted this event to happen so badly, and we worked as hard as we could to bring it to life. Ultimately, this wasn’t the right time for Just Another Bookish Ball.

Again, we are sorry we could not make this work, but we are so thankful for the support we have received from the bookish community. Our website will be up for a while longer, and as one last request, we ask you take the time to check out the authors and vendors and show them support. They are absolutely incredible and deserve every ounce of recognition.
